i've never understood the point of having your own private track if you can't hide it from spy photographers.

Funny I had the same thought as "surely they could build a fence around this thing."

I'm guessing it's on purpose. As much as companies don't want the real info leaked they love the publicity and speculation.

that's what i was thinking. except that it seemed like such a PRIME place to flim from, that it's just ridiculous.

you can go to the road just outside the factory and get this view (taken on my 2007 italy trip):

Image

that seems good enough to provide shots and speculation, so i don't know why they have to be given a prime view too.

[note: if i'd gone and stood there and seen this stuff flying around, i probably wouldn't be making this point. i think i'm just jealous.]

Knowing the tifosi, maybe Ferrari tried to build a fence years ago but it was torn down...

And Damn! I've always wanted to go to the factory! Maybe now as a Scuderia owner it'd be a little easier.

yeah, we couldnt go within the gates (obviously), but the museum next door was amazing. and it was cool to see the track, even with nothing going around it.

Teaser for round 2 of Ken Block's gymkhana tomfoolery.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MME320WX ... r_embedded

New car, new location, new video. Unfortunately his new car's a GR so it won't be quite as cool as the first....but I'm still pretty pumped.

Randomly found this... It's pretty old. But I don't know if it was posted. Can't remember, anyway... Covini C6W on track.

Looks rather agile in the slow corners. I'd love to take a test drive.

Did I mention I came everytime the Viper accelerated?
The Porsche, btw, was piloted by Sabine Schmitz in the 24 hour race.

The whole time I was thinking, "He's just toying with her until the straight." Then she blew by the Viper there too. I know he had to scrub some speed avoiding traffic, but I would have figured the Viper would have opened up more of a gap up to that point.

Well are those cars in the same racing class?

That was great. I kept thinking that the Viper was a faster package but the re-pass on the long straight says otherwise. The Viper wasn't shifting anymore and seemed to be bouncing off the rev limiter, so that was max speed. Perhaps the reason the Porsche passed is that it was geared to go faster.

honestly i was incredibly surprised the viper kept up. i would have figured the power limits it in corners and the Porsches are pretty well known for how well they handle arent they? Awesome lap in any case.

It's GT3 class... The FIA spent months to get the performance right. The Viper has more grunt, the Porsche a better aero efficiency.
It really was close until the traffic came in.

Yes. SP9 GT3.

Why would power limit a car in corners?
And again. This is basically GT3 class. Both hardcore racecars, no street vehicles.
The difference might have been in the drivers. The Lamborghini which they overtake up Klostertal is usually good for the Top 10, but was probably driven by Hermann Tilke at that point. (You know, the guy that builds the F1 tracks for a living). So it looked like the car was standing still.

Usually, as I have seen in other races the cars in that class are very even. They will make for some fun racing action.

Certainly not in a car with 550 hp, massive slicks, a huge rear wing, diffusor and an experienced driver.

Still, at around 5 minutes, when the cars pass the slowest part of the northern loop (Wehrseifen) you can see, that the Porsche makes advantage of the rear engine.

In the superfast tripple right before, the car struggles quite a lot, though. The Viper is on a different line and still almost pushes the Porsche away. :P
